Major General Herzi Halevi Begins His Tenure as Deputy Chief of the General Staff
Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi: “"We will continue to change and we will continue to build a better army."
Major General Herzi Halevi begins his tenure as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, replacing Major General Eyal Zamir who has served in the position for three years. A ceremony marking the change of the guard was held at the IDF headquarters at Camp Rabin, also known as “The Kiryah”. In attendance were the Minister of Defense, Mr. Benny Gantz, the Chief of the General Staff, commanders, family members and other guests.
Minister of Defense, Mr. Benny Gantz: "I thank the outgoing Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, and his family.
Eyal, over the years you have represented the quiet and stately command. You exemplified professionalism alongside initiative and creativity. You knew how to lead IDF operations during the Corona virus pandemic together with the Home Front Command. Everyone knew there was a quiet and safe person to trust.
General Herzi Halevi, first and foremost you are an officer of special operations who knows how to go into details, but, as proved by Operation “Guardian of the Walls”, you are also a commander who knows how to build a network, and combine all the required forces and capabilities. Now, it is your job to continue building the IDF's forces, to promote and develop the IDF's strength as the People's Army alongside the Chief of the General Staff.
I would like to thank the entire General Staff forum for the important operational work led by the Chief of the General Staff in the face of the challenges which face the State of Israel."
Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi: "The role of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff has become more significant, since at this time the entire force building effort is multi-armed. Eyal - you did an outstanding job, a job that gave me a lot of confidence. In operational activity and in the aspects of force building, in operational planning and in the implementation of the multi-year “Momentum" plan. You brought a lot of experience, judgment, practicality, pragmatism, and above all, you brought many positive results. You were an outstanding partner, and you did so with great elegance.
Herzi - We have known each other for many years and I am very happy to have you as my partner. I greatly trust your intelligence, operational experience, and judgment, and I expect we will continue to realize the multi-year “Momentum" plan together. We will continue to change, and we will continue to build a better army that takes the best possible care of its people."
