Successful Test of “Gabriel V” Anti-Ship Missile as part of the Operational Development of the Israeli Navy's Sa’ar 6-Class Corvettes
Throughout the month of August, the Israeli Navy, together with the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) and the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), completed a complex test of a “Gabriel V” anti-ship missile. This test is an additional milestone in the ongoing effort to operationally develop the Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar 6-class corvettes.
The INS “Oz”, the second of four Sa'ar-6 class corvettes, was tested for its ability to deal with various threats using new and advanced military equipment, including the “Gabriel V” anti-ship missile.
“Gabriel V” is an advanced long-range anti-ship missile system, capable of traveling for hundreds of kilometers, in varying naval and aerial conditions. The impact of the missile enables the prevention and destruction of a wide range of targets and threats.
The advanced missiles ensure the regional advantage of the Israeli Navy and the preservation of the IDF’s maritime superiority. The missiles will serve the Israeli Navy in its various missions, among them defending the strategic assets of the State of Israel.
The operational development of the “Gabriel V” anti-ship missile system constitutes a technological breakthrough in the field of maritime defense. The system is a product of extensive, professional and precise work of Israeli Navy soldiers and engineers in cooperation with the DDR&D and IAI.
Deputy Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy, RAdm. Guy Goldfarb:
“The Israeli Navy continues to develop and evolve in the face of a variety of growing operational and regional changes. The “Gabriel V” anti-ship missile system will strengthen the Israeli Navy’s operational and defensive capabilities in the maritime arena and in a wide array of additional arenas and objectives. The Israeli Navy believes in preserving freedom of navigation and defending the maritime arena, the Exclusive Economic Zone and the strategic assets of the State of Israel. The strategic depth and maritime superiority provided by the Israeli Navy to the State of Israel derives from technological innovation and developing and training soldiers who work to achieve operational successes.“
Head of the “Meteor” Department in the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D):
“This technologically and operationally groundbreaking system will enable the Israeli Navy to continue maintaining naval superiority. The Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) will dedicate all technological assets developed in the State of Israel for the sake of providing a response to operational needs.”
Chief Executive Officer of the Israel Aerospace Industries, Mr. Boaz Levy:
“The IAI is proud of the success of the test conducted on a ‘Gabriel V’ anti-ship missile, which took place on the advanced Sa’ar 6-class corvette, with the close cooperation of the Ministry of Defense and the Israeli Navy. The combination of these capabilities on the Sa’ar 6-class corvette is a significant milestone in the field of maritime combat, which contributes to the defense of the strategic assets of the State of Israel.”
