Technological Innovation Award Ceremony

Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi:
“The Israel Defense Forces is a moral military, and just as we improve our operational capabilities, we must also keep bolstering our morals.”

The Technological Innovation Award ceremony, led by the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi, was held last night (Monday). The ceremony included the participation of members of the IDF General Staff, other IDF senior officials and the families of the outstanding personnel.

The Technological Innovation Award is an award granted by the Chief of the General Staff for groundbreaking technological developments and innovative systems that have contributed to the security of the country. 27 outstanding personnel from the IDF’s branches and directorates received the awards, including from the Israeli Ground Forces, the Israeli Navy, the Israeli Air Force, the Intelligence Directorate (J2), the J6 and Cyber Defense Directorate, the Strategic Planning and Cooperation Directorate (J5), Technological and Logistics Directorate (J4), the Tank and APC Administration (MANTAK), and the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) of the Ministry of Defense.

Twenty-two of the recipients received individual awards for technological excellence and exceptional personal example, and five more received individual awards for technological excellence, contribution and exceptional technological activity over the years.

The recipients were selected by the Chief of the General Staff, in accordance with the recommendations of a committee appointed by the Head of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold. Leading the committee is the National Security Advisor and Head of the National Security Council (NSC), BG (Res.) Jacob Nagel.

Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi:
“Congratulations to the recipients of the awards and to your families, who are partners in your military service and in this award. When I ask myself what this special military consists of, I find that it consists of thousands of innovations, concepts, and capabilities that people stand behind. The IDF of today is a moral military, but recently we have had incidents that should not have happened. Just today, three soldiers hurled an explosive device at a Palestinian home. This is a serious act that goes against the values of the IDF - this is not our way! We must condemn such behavior. The IDF should be a moral military, and just as we improve our operational capabilities, we must also keep bolstering our morals. In Operation ‘Breaking Dawn,’ we struck hundreds of targets in the most densley populated area in the world, with the lowest ratio of terrorists to uninvolved civilians recorded in the history of wars - this is our way, the way of morality and values. The IDF enables the citizens of Israel to sleep peacefully. Your developments and capabilities, for whose sake you have gathered here today - are what make our security so significant. Thank you.”

Head of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold:
“Your ability to take advantage of the technological revolution and the rapid changes we are experiencing and utilize them to provide technological-operational solutions is at the forefront of global knowledge. You have encountered many challenges along the way, from developing and implementing concepts to address operational challenges, to inventing and applying ideas to establish the superiority of the State of Israel even in the absence of a concrete problem. You were taught to achieve this while dealing with physical-technological constraints and administrative challenges. You have risen above all with strength! This ceremony serves as a reminder to the IDF and the Israeli security forces of the value of the human element in research and development, as well as the importance of their integration into the Israeli security forces. The recipients of the Technological Innovation Award are considered the ‘pillar of fire at the front of the camp,’ aimed at scientific-research-technological excellence, breaking technological-operational boundaries and turning the vision into security. Thank you for your great contribution to the security of the country and its technological superiority.”
