Officers ranks have been given to the new IDF combat officers at their graduation ceremony

The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi:
"The IDF is an army of the people, an army that accepts people from all parts of the nation and respects every person with no relation to their religion, ethnic origin, background, gender or sexual orientation."

The Chief of the General Staff at the 59th Combat Officers Graduation Ceremony:

"At the core of every command is the love for others and the belief in others. The main expression of this is the principle that we have established - "the humans is dear" and human dignity is an essential part of that principle.

The IDF is an army of the people, an army that accepts people from all parts of the nation and respects every person with no relation to their religion, ethnic origin, background, gender or sexual orientation.

Just recently, at one of the IDF's training bases, a number of cadets hurt another cadet on the basis of his ethnic origin. This is a severe incident – this is not an incident based on values nor on friendship. Respecting a person means respecting what is dear to him - his body, his good reputation, his privacy and his humanity.

Any harm done on sexual grounds, in speech or in deed, is harm done to human dignity and constitutes a severe transgression. Our policy on the subject is "zero tolerance" and we will act severely in the face of any deviations. In order to eradicate this phenomenon, the involvement of commanders is required, which includes assimilation of values, a grasp of the ongoings in the unit, deterrence, severe punishment, and above all, personal example.

For this reason, IDF officers have an additional responsibility, and they must refrain from any intimate relationship between officers and their soldiers, even if it seems to be based on consent. There is no gray area in this matter.

The power of the IDF is measured first and foremost by its moral resilience; we are the standard bearers!
And the eyes of our subordinates and of Israeli society as a whole, are upon us with the expectation that we will act in a moral and uncompromising manner in all aspects and certainly in this area, concerning the spirit and the dignity of those we command. Only in this way will we maintain the IDF as an exemplary organization – based on stateliness and values."
