The Commanding Officer of the Southern Command Grants Citation to the Yahalom Unit
Commanding Officer of the Southern Command: “This award expresses great appreciation for a unit which operated professionally and courageously, and reached a significant achievement.”
Today (Thursday), the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Herzi Halevi, presented a citation to the Yahalom unit.
The award was granted to the unit for its groundbreaking covert operational activity in the Southern Command during the past year, as part of the campaign to locate and destroy tunnels, and the campaign against enemy force generation in Gaza.
The award states that in the past year, the unit led a unique and first-of-its-kind operation, based on accurate and high-quality intelligence, advanced technological and operational capabilities, inter-organizational cooperation, and above all, courage, both in professional decision-making and execution.
It was also noted that this activity made a significant contribution to the security of the south in general, and to the effort to mitigate enemy capabilities in Gaza.
Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Herzi Halevi: "For its efforts in thwarting the tunnel system in the southern sector, we’ve chosen to commemorate the Yahalom unit. This award expresses great appreciation for a unit which acted professionally and courageously, and reached a significant achievement that required breakthroughs in capability, daring in planning, execution, and decision-making; all of which led to the desired result."

The award is an expression of his assessment of the many operational activities carried out by the unit's fighters and commanders. The unit's groundbreaking operational successes have strengthened the security of the State of Israel."
