The new Major Generals: Eliezer Toledano and Rassan Aliyan
Brigadier General Eliezer Toledano and Brigadier General Rassan Aliyan were promoted to the rank of Major General today (Sunday), in a ceremony held at the Ben Gurion House, in the "Rabin" Camp (in the Kirya), in Tel Aviv.
The ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Mr. Benny Gantz, the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi, members of the General Staff and the families of the new Major Generals.
Minister of Defense, Mr. Benny Gantz: "I have great confidence and pride today in awarding these ranks to two officers I know to be creative, daring and moral. I am sure that your move to engage in the IDF's strategic framework-- to become members of the General Staff-- will be an excellent assisting force for building an experienced command force."
Gantz thanked Maj. Gen. Herzli Halevi for his operational work in the Southern Command and said that he was confident that he would bring his diverse operational experience to the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff. Gantz also expressed gratitude to Maj. Gen. Kamil Abu Rukun for his many years of service, in which he demonstrated the ability to deal with complex civilian and security challenges, while providing significant assistance in maintaining stability via cooperation between the IDF and the political echelon.
The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Aviv Kohavi: "This ceremony is the story of the State of Israel, it was exciting to hear the stories of your two families, it is fascinating to me; and more than that, I am happy that you’re both joining the General Staff. I trust you both, and the experience you bring to the table.
Eliezer - You are a talented officer who has served in all of your roles with honors. You have been a senior partner in the successes of the Southern Command in recent years, a Division commander who is at the junction between the strategic and the tactical. You’ve been contributing, changing and shaping the efforts in the south in both the strategic and tactical senses.
Rassan, your work is always professional, matter-of-fact and modest, with true leadership that people want to follow. I am confident in your success, certainly with the experience you have gained in recent years in the Central Command and COGAT."
